Use the ‘ghetto name generator / ghetto name maker’ above to find some classic ghetto nicknames. It’s only a bit of fun, but you won’t be disappointed we assure you.
Ghetto nicknames and ghetto names are becoming more and more popular in the poorer communities in the United States. Popular choices tend to follow the sometimes avantguard baby name choices given to babies by celebrity parents. Alicia, Jalana and Kelisia being recent examples.
Firstly, here is our top pick of male ghetto nicknames. Starting with Leroy a real famous classic, can also be prefixed of course JaLeroy, El-Leroy, DaLeroy etc. Other classics include DeMaurier, Tyrone, DeMarcus, Deshawnbrey, LaMarcus, L’Tydrick, DeQwan.
When it comes to the girls there seems to be a lot more than there are for the boys. Odd I know, but true. We really like Ce’darcey, Brashonda, Britnesha, Cleisha, Courtez and Sondrea (which sounds like an icecream). However there has to be one winner, and there is. It stands out a million miles above all the other ghetto nicknames and is... wait for it. ‘Preshess’. Told you it was awful, a terribly bad spelling of precious, which would be a fairly horrendous name if it was spelt correctly.
Dictionaries tend to define a ghetto as a potion or area in a city in which members of a (usually poor) minority live. This is usually due to social, legal, or economic pressure. The earliest mention of a ghetto seems to be in Venice, where Jews were forced to live in the same area. The word is Italian and actually means foundry which is probably a reference to a foundry located on the same island as the area of the Jewish confinement.
Thirty five years after the civil rights era, America remains a residentially segregated society in which both blacks and whites tend to live in different neighborhoods tending to have wildly different standards of living.
Throughout history large American cities have contained distinct ethnic districts but they have rarely been quite as isolated and impoverished as the African American neighborhoods found in united states today. This racial segregation found in ghettos can lead to social, economic and political tensions.
It also tends to lead to sub-cultures developing in the different neighbourhoods, this doesn’t always have to be a bad thing, but when it happenes it does tend to create stereotypes which fuel racism. When one group tends to do, say and name their children in a certain way, it gives others a way of telling what social group a person is from. this can be dangerous, but also has a plus side, allowing different groups in a city to develop interesting and diverse customs.
We are not just talking about naming conventions, there are ghetto hairstyles, ghetto cars, even ghetto prom dresses if you look in the right place! It really is an amazing social transformation when you look at it. Could really make one think i want my name in ghetto graffiti letters and I want to drive a proper ghetto car. What started as an economic problem could well be set to become cooler than cool. Pretty odd world eh?
